[Essay] Books – our best friends

The poet Robert Southey has beautifully called books his never books our best friendsfailing friends with whom he converses  day by day. Books are true friends they can be by our side in whatever mood we are. They enlighten, give knowledge, entertain and inform us. Books are written with experienced people so we learn from their lives. We can carry books with us when we travel. They are our constant companions. when we are tired of reading we can close them, we can even read them at midnight. They fill our minds and hearts with hope and joy. Unlike human friends they never deceive or betray us. Books have inspired people through the ages. The first book of the Aryan called the Rigveda has a lot for us to learn and understand even after 3000 years. Books like the Ramayana and Mahabharat are relevant in modern times and teach people the ways of life. Writers like Gandhi have put forward to us their life on a platter to understand their goals and teachings.

When we read books, we are in the company of the best and the noblest minds of all ages. They enrich our minds by providing us with knowledge and widen the frontiers of our imagination.

Books play important role in influencing our character and personality. A man is known by the company he keeps so it is necessary to pick the right books. Reading is a habit and one should cultivate since childhood. It is the best leisure time activity – one must slowly graduate from picture comics, fairy tales, detective and romance stories to good literature.

But one must have a proper choice of books to read. This will depend on our temperament and tastes. Today there is a lot of trash, sex and violence depicted in books. They also encourage criminal activities so care should be taken while choosing books to read.

Books also need to be taken care of – one must avoid folding pages, loosening the rib, marking pages in somebody else’s books or tearing pages from library books. Books are written on different topics like history, geography, science, philosophy, religion. One must treat them as a window to the world which give us the right glimpse of life.

Students of today have a heavy schedule in school and have no extra time to read. The school authorities should inculcate the habit of reading because books are for the people, of the people and by the people. They act as our philosophers and guides. Cultivate a habit for reading it is good for all.

[Essay] If i were a scientist

India has given to the world a great many scientists like Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose , Sir Vishweshwaraiya , SrinivasRamanujan , Sir C. V. Raman, Dr. Homi Bhabha, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. Abdul Kalam. I admire them all. So many a times I keep wondering what “If I were a scientist” let me think. What can I do for the best of my Country, my people and all of the above for all the living beings residing on earth. How can I be useful to humanity? How can I be useful for the conservation and preservation of earth? To what extent I would be at service to mother earth? If I were a scientist, service to mankind would be first and foremost duty of life. I would work round the clock to invent remedies for deadly diseases like AIDS and cancer. I would try to put an end to human suffering . I would invent medicines that would make and old age worth living. As a scientist, I would request all the scientists of the world to use the atomic and nuclear energy for the welfare

[essay] Role of teacher in moulding a student's life

Teachers takes the place of parents in a school, they guide and mould the character and personality of the student. They influence the formative years of the students. A good teacher coaxes and helps a student to understand his abilities and become a better human being. The children look up to their teachers so it is very easy to mould them to divert their attention to things which are constructive. Students are going to be the future citizen of the country- so it is the duty of the teacher to harness their capabilities in making the future of country bright. To be a role model a teacher should learn to appreciate studies themselves, then only can they make the students appreciate the importance of education and knowledge in their lives. Unsure teachers only teach for money. They destroy the growth of students and cannot be role models. Teachers should not consider teaching to be a money spinning business. They should understand that they are in a noble profession and the growth and

[Essay] The pleasures and pains of youth

The period of teenage is a short but a beautiful one. We begin our teens when we are “thirteen” and we end it with “nineteen”. It is also called a period of adolescence – when you are neither a child nor an adult. It is a time for privacy but on the other hand there is a lot of peer pressure. You start growing up and understanding your physical qualities and understanding the importance of looking good. You look out for a role model – a wrong model can put your life in jeopardy. The right role model can uplift your life. You want to act grown up but you lack the confidence, so many times you act in an immature manner creating problems for our own selves. We do not appreciate parental advice and we feel it is too condescending. Parents also refuse to understand this phase of the child. Actually parents should be made friends and role model as they always wish the best for their children. Lack of reading and too much dependency on TV, computers , internet and films, can lead to
